Mine takes about 2 seconds per port. Chances are you are rejecting connections rather than just dropping the packets. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you just drop them, the intruder recieves no responce, and it appears as though there is no machine at the destination IP address.
Not a big deal though. If packets aren't getting through except where you want 'em to, that's a good thing...
