missed this one on my last swipe...

to do sound you need a networkable sound daemon. if you use KDE, aRts will do 
fine. it can be set to send the sound over the network. IIRC there is even 
documentation on this in the k12 ltsp manual. there are also docs on the arts 
project web site.
