Yes I will be trying to write an article on every step of these configurations and will make them available on a new "How To's" or similiar section on my site.

I have played with Shoutcast and Icecast (both run on my server but are disabled) and plan to check out Mplayer, VideoLan and Darwin. Unfortunatley the box I have for streaming is a 550 Althlon so although MP3 streaming will be fine, I am sure I will see problems with video so that part will be testing/experimenting until I get a more "manly" box.

I do indeed use everything, and CVS will also be used to handle a repository of writing I plan to start as well as coding. And everything I do is dumped into a database one way or another. I beleive DB's will begin to evolve into many areas, like in-memory RDMS for embedded systems etc, and will play a major role in many expanding tech areas.

Anthing that spawns (or can be modified to spawn) multiple process's, including ripping all tracks of a cd simultaneously, but have not gotten this to work perfectly yet but I will (I hope) and it will be SO COOL!!!!! I cant wait for this one. I think I need to copy the tracks to a shared mosix cluster file system for it to work properly though. I also do stats (not much lately but I hope to change that) and would like to try my hand at writing some basic web based stats tools for network/firewall/web analytics which could run across nodes. But yes it is mostly for experimenting and learning and I want to try a few others (Oscar, Beowulf etc). (Opinion Coming...)

I beleive that something akin to IBM's "Grid Computing" and "Clusters" will eventually end up in our homes where multiple "smart" devices will share a common database, storage, ram and distributed processing model so that when you buy that new embedded Linux, LCD Touchscreen which attaches where your lightswitch goes, you get another wireless access point in the house and the entire system gets a little bit more powerful with the addition of another CPU and ram to help with encryption, video/audio encoding, streaming etc. This specific "Idea" is something I plan to try and pursue shortly, in one way or another and I beleive open source software and Linux can/will play a major and necessary role.

Now that I have more space for rips I may even redo what I have already done (around 2200) at a higher bitrate. I often work in my living room (office is crowded and noisy) with my laptop connected by 802.11 and streaming my music to my main home theatre system and the sound is tolerable (except for good base like Metallica drums). I have not tried FLAC yet but plan to and will try out a formal "auditioning" day to make a final decision on encoding, bitrate etc, that I can stick to. And by the time I get it decided and all 1200+ cd's ripped I will probably have a large enough hard drive to just copy the cd's as is (700+ gb). But then I will want my DVD's and DVD-Audio's on there too (500+ tb?)
