"At a stroke, MS cuts critical vuln reports" http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/28191.html [A hypothetical example of a conversation between MS security execs] Bill : "Gee, it sure is discouraging to see the number of security vulnerabilities we have had to release this year...isnt around 70 or so?" Steve: "yeah, we REALLY need to do something about that. Our customers are losing confidence in us" Bill: "Hey, I have an idea!!! Why dont we raise the standard on what constitutes a reportable critical security vulnerability" Steve: "WOW!!! what a great idea Bill, that we way will certainly appear have fewer security vulnerabilites and people will trust our software even more!!!! And, we dont have to waste any of our own time or money trying to fix those ones we dont consider "critical" and dont release. Boy are you ever SMART Bill!!!" Bill: "Gee thanks Steve, hey do you want to go in the back room and bend over so I can give it to you just like I give it to our customers?" ________________________________ Open Enterprise Solutions Open Solutions for an Open World Johnny Stork, BA Calgary, AB Canada http://www.openenterprise.ca http://www.open-solutions.ca |
