I really like the way they've setup their hierarchy, and I know there are a few projects working on making a distro with a similar hierarchy. I like how each program is simply one file (technically a directory with the support stuff inside, but it appears a simply a file in most operations) that you double click to startup. They are usually installed in /Applications but you can move them to anywhere you would like, only very poorly written programs can't be relocated anywhere you would like...and there are very few of these programs. More people writing linux software should distribute their programs in this manner, a simple icon you place where ever you'd like.
