Here is what I have had success with

1: Custom scripts using rsync, tar or dump in various personal configurations. I have attached an example of one which I run nightly, does a full backup of selected drives/folders on Sunday, and incrementals every other day of the week. Then I use another scripts to run all the individual backup scripts. I then have a tape drive which runs daily and backups up a central respository of all servers, daily/weekly *.tar.gz runs from the script.

2: Arkeia

Not bad, interface in latest version 5 sucks (IMHO) and can be very complex at times since it is designed for large scale, multiple servers, tape pools etc. Might want to try version 4. Free for personal use (5) but I think 4.1 can be used fully in any environment. Docs/manual, at least the quickstart is a MUST READ as it is nearly impossible to fumble your way through figuring it out on your own.

3: Storix

Much easier to use, cleaner interface, free for personal use but wont backup NFS mounts. Not a big deal if you use a script to backup remote machines and send the tar.gz's to the main server running the backup.
