It was about a year and a half ago that Microsoft leaned all over Dell, Compaq and a few others about providing Linux distributions.  They said that those vendors who provided Linux enabled machines would lose their favorable licensing arrangements with Microsoft.  Dell and others caved pretty fast and it's now Hard to find a persuaded Linux machine.  This action was featured in the antitrust suit I think, but likely to no avail.

The nice thing about IBM is that they teach their sales people to speak the same
language as their PR people. I have a cousin who is an IBM salesman and he gave
me pretty much the same line as in the article. That Linux is a great system
that has many applications and IBM is right behind it, but that they are also
the largest retailer of Windows and that it too has its place.
This is in sharp contrast to Dell who a year ago had a real nice web page set up
talking about their commitment to Linux, but when I called Dell and asked about
getting a machine pre-loaded with Linux, no one even knew what Linux was.
