I'm not trying to revive a dead thread or anything, I just though this was interesting. infoanarchy.org posted a small review of a project called Gmane this morning. It's a mail to news gateway that offers spam protection, a web interface, etc. It looks like these guys are offering it as a free service but you can also download the programs source code.
