Hi Diane, I'd recommend looking at zipslack (a mini -as in 100 meg- version of slackware designed to run off of a zip drive) I've had it running nicely on low resource machines, directly off of the hard drive, with a minimum of fuss.
good luck, Marcel -----Original Message----- From: Diana Porter [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, December 11, 2002 9:42 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: (clug-talk) Quick Debian Install - an offshoot Jeff - and other gurus on this list - do you think this version would install onto an old laptop if I tried it? I am fairly new to Linux and I am running Mandrake on my desktop, but just to get into the bash of things (too much GUI makes me lazy) I have looked at the 4MB Laptop (although mine has 8MB RAM) Howto, and I am wondering if this distro might be just what I seek (no X needed)? Otherwise I am considering installing Slackware instead....? My configuration is: 486 50 8MB 500 MB Internal FDD Parallel Backpack CD-ROM Thank you all of you....
