ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V3.1-2002-12-10-EN.iso

It's a reasonably speedy site.

Jeffrey,
Where did you get it from? and is there any instruction for burning or is it
just an ISO image. I like the idea of having it on CD for booting - pretty
slick. I went to the knoppix.org website and was not able to find what I
need.

Any directions?
Thanks Jeff.

Raf.

Update for my post yesterday.

On the 10th a new version of Knoppix was released and it's even better.
Last night I downloaded and installed this on my laptop and it's even
better that the last Knoppix (This probably wins my award for
slickest/easiest Linux install ever.)

Just boot from the CD and from a terminal
$ sudo /usr/local/bin/knx-hdinstall

it lets you partition and choose file systems, services and the usual
stuff but you don't choose packages to install. It installs all the
Knoppix stuff. Since Knoppix already knows about your hardware this
gets transfered to the new machine and just works.. X, mouse, sound,
etc all works.

To add software later Knoppix is based on debian so you can use apt-get
and it all works great.

Only problem I had with the new version was /etc/skel contains a bunch
of config files with the language set to German. I just nuked
everything in /etc/skel and the added my users and it works great.

All in all if you like Debians stability and packages but hate the
installer this is a great way to get a good working workstation in about
20min.

Jeff
