It could be bad contacts or a bad locking pin that isn't holding the
battery in close enough to provide a good connection.

I had a on old HP with this problem. Stumped the hell out me untill I
found the one of the locking pins was warn down enough to make the
battery connection somewhat unpredictable.

I McGivered it with a little wedge I made out of paper, which held it in
place more firmly. Not a fix, but a solution nevertheless.
