Hey All,

Wanted to share a success with you. I have been dual booting at work for a
while now. SuSE 8.1 and Win98. One of the issues that I had was the inability
to print from SuSE.

Our office has a Lanier Printer/Copier. I decided one day to investigate and
see if Lanier had any support for Linux. I emailed their support and got an
answer back today. It seems that Ricoh and Lanier merged and that our printer
has a Ricoh counterpart. There is even a UNIX/Linux driver available with
some decent instructions.

It uses LPRng, which I am not familiar with (as-of-yet). I went through the
install procedure as it was explained. Not an overly complicated procedure. I
was miffed to see that it did not work.

This led me to take a gander to see whether CUPS had an entry for the
appropriate Ricoh printer. It did not but it had a similar entry in the same
family. Once I entered the information, I tried a test print and lo and
behold, it worked. I was already a fan of CUPS before but this cemented the
whole thing.

Kudos to those CUPS folks!
