this is true for the base system, but you can write and compile your own 
software (or other's software) for the Zaurus on your PC. in fact, KDevelop 
support cross-compiling for the Zaurus. neat-o.

obviously, this isn't as flexible as Intimate or Familiar (boy that phrase 
reads oddly), but it isn't exactly a close system either.

there's a fair amount of Free software for the Zaurus out there as well. in 
fact, you may notice that many of the Zaurus apps that come with it or are 
available for download look hauntingly familiar if you are used to KDE. this 
isn't a coincidence. =)

agreed... i share your enthusiasm over the Zaurus, QTopia and Linux PDAs in 
general...
