Well...my thinking was that we sell StarOffice and OpenOffice.org and
mandrake so why not show something off. We did have Monsters Inc. playing
one time so maybe I could look at playing that. Department boss knows
nothing about Linux but a few guys around know a bit about it. Asked a
manager if I could load Mandrake on one of the old systems that no one seems
to want. He said ask dept guy.

I am hoping the CD version goes well and that I will have the chance to do
the full install. Wouldn't that be something if Staples starting selling
Linux-based machines huh? Considering they are a complete and total MS
shop...even their new till system is NT 4 based. Ick!

BTW...what does IIRC mean?

This is at Staples, IIRC? I would say...

<opinion> KDE, cos it's the prettiest. ;-) OpenOffice, cos users care
about office tools(?). XMMS, cos everybody needs MP3s. ;-) </opinion>

If you're "selling" Linux (in the marketing sense), it pays to know your
demographic. What age groups will be attracted by the hardware/software?
What are their primary uses for a computer? Show off the stuff that they
will be interested in.

Showing "The Matrix" using Xine probably wouldn't go over as well (DeCSS),
but I thought of it none the less. ;-)

Whatever you do, have fun! And let us know how it goes!

Curtis.

any suggestions on how I shold best portray Cluggix on the sytem at work.
DOn't know if you knew or not. I have permission to load a CD-based linux
distro on a computer

Am going to see about taking an old machine that no one wants.. and see if
they will let me load a full distro on there as well. Most likely Mandrake
as we sell it.

Hi Roy,

It has its own CLUG boot splash, Cluggix desktop with the KDE Liquid theme.
The webpage default is calgary.linux.ca as well. It is however English only
this makes it easier when doing HDD installs.

Tricks: When the clug bootsplash appears press F2 and invoke Knoppix cheats.
You can for example use a wheelmouse mouse by useing "knoppix wheelmouse" or
specify which desktop manager to use, screen resolution, etc.

All the best, Dan

I am still downloading the Cluggix ISO so I have not tried it yet. Does
Cluggix have a Calgary or Alberta graphic for the backdrop? I would
suggest a Tux penguin with a white Stetson hat and a picture of the
Calgary sky line.
