Further to this... The how-to is wrong. I found a page (http://www.cencula.com/cyrus.html) that indicates the inetd/xinetd is not used for cyrus. You need to go to the /etc/init.d (on Suse) and run "cyrus start" to start the services. The test works at that point.
Now to see if I can connect via outlook and/or telnet... Shawn -----Original Message----- From: Shawn Grover To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Sent: 3/9/03 9:03 PM Subject: RE: (clug-talk) Mail server help?... Still Ok, so now I have Cyrus installed and configured with sasl even, but something still isn't working. I went through the How-To for Cyrus-IMAP (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Cyrus-IMAP.html) and everything looked good until I got to the part that says to test it with "imtest -m login -p imap localhost" (section 8.2). It goes on to say that if you see a particular message you are good to go. However, I do NOT see that message, and there is no reference what to do when it doesn't work. So, here's the scoop. I do a "su cyrus" then run "imtest -m login -p imap localhost". I get a message back "failure: prot layer failure". As per the howto, I ran "saslpasswd cyrus" and set a passowrd - is this the problem? does anyone know the default password for the cyrus account on a Suse distro? At this point, it looks like things are working (kinda), but I still get "connection refused" on smtp, pop3, and imap. Until I can get this resolved, my email is down :( Thanks in advance. All tips/resources are appreciated. Shawn -----Original Message----- From: Shawn Grover To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Sent: 3/9/03 5:15 PM Subject: RE: (clug-talk) Mail server help? Thanks Jesse. I was using Alt-F# and executing KDE specific funcitons. Never though of doing a CTRL-Alt-F# combination. Much better now. As for my Email troubles, I discovered Cyrus IMAP wasn't installing because I had a corrupted file in my install source. Just got the latest and installed it error free. Now I'm hoping that working through the Postfix-Cyrus How-To will be enough to finish up.... If your in the console ie. virtual terminal 1 you can press Alt-F2 to switch to the next one, and so on up the F keys. If you are in X, then you can press Ctrl.-Alt-F1 to move to a virtual terminal, and Alt-F7 to move back to X display 0. Jesse -- Jesse Kline, RHCT
