Just to reiterate the annoncement I had made at the last meeting...

The Avro Museum is hosting an open house on the 23rd of this month at 6808
Ogden road. (You enter through the Hobby store)

The Avro Museum is dedicated to remembering what Canadians are capable of,
and specifically the technical efforts of A.V. Roe Canada. As such they
maintain a museum with artifacts and other resources from A.V. Roe during
the period of the late 50's, early 60's. To honor the efforts of the Avro
employees, they have undertaken a project to build a 2/3rd scale piloted
replica of the Avro Arrow (a jet interceptor for those who do not know).
Thus far they have a 1/5th scale proof of concept model for both the Avro
Arrow and the Avro Jetliner (North America's first regional passenger jet).
Just to stress the size of these vehicles, at 1/5th scale, the Arrow has a
wing span of 10 feet, and the Jetliner of close to 20 feet. You can learn
more about the museum from it's web site (which I'm responsible for - so
pass criticisms my way.. <grins> ): http://www.avromuseum.ca. They also
have the details of the open house on the home page. But here's the heart
of the details (in case the site is dead again):

A note though - we have been having a string of bad luck with our current
host, and are looking to move the site. So please be patient with the page
loads, and try again later if the page displays a server busy error.

To tie this into CLUG....
We have a number of computers with everything from autocad to MS Office on
them (all the necessary components for an engineering project). I
personally would welcome any recommendations on how we could implement open
source software / servers. We need to raise a large amount of money in the
near future to complete the replica, and would rather we not have to spend
any money on exorbinant software licensing costs. I encourage you to visit
the museum, get a feel for what they have, and offer open source suggestions
to me. Or better yet, if you have the time and interest, we welcome
volunteers.

My applogies for the off topic post. But, I'm sure some of the list's
members will be interested in this type of thing. Afterall, it's more or
less an open source engineering project.. <smiles>
