Supporting RedHat 7.1 to 8.0 on various Toshiba laptops.
I have no problem setting up the printers using printtool, but the issue I'm having is trying to transfer that information to other installs.
In the past, we setup the printers on campus using JetDirect because they're all HP but management wanted a change to use the existing printer shares on NT for page counter use. JetDirect wasn't perfect - it only worked in 2 of 3 buildings; fixed a hostname issue and the SMB works fine.
With the JetDirect, we were able to copy the printcap file over. SMB isn't taking - the output in printtool doesn't show any of the printers, even after LPD is restarted. Would CUPS be a better choice? Or is there something I'm missing?
