Hi,

Someone (I can't remember who) asked for a link to my Gnome2.2 SRPMS. As I had to make it available for another group of users, I thought I'd mention it here as well. Here's a link to my gnorpms directory for anyone who's interested. They will rpmbuild on a stock RedHat 8.0 system but some of the dependencies are against XFree86-4.3.0 (just the RPM package dependencies. They'll compile fine with XFree86-4.2).

Just a few notes:

1) The build order is outlined in a file called gnome2-2.lst. I lifted this off of "A Little Gnome Installation Guide" @karubik.de

2) Most of these have patches I made to suit my own personal taste. For instance, I've added the gtkmenu dropshadow patch to gtk2, re-enabled nautilus's support for MP3s (which RedHat took out), etc. As I don't have Qt installed on my system, my SRPMS won't compile the Qt/KDE versions of Bluecurve (from the redhat-artwork package) nor is Qt a build dependency. This should be a boon to KDE users who have nothing good to say about Bluecurve.

3) Some packages require older versions of automake (ie. gtk2 requires automake-1.4) so you can install the automake14 package alongside a more recent version of automake. No conflicts there.

4) Most of the spec files were lifted off of RedHat 8.0's own. I had to modify some of them so that they would allow non-privileged users with rw access to /usr/src/redhat/ to rpmbuild these packages. I don't like the idea of rpmbuilds overwriting existing installs.

5) I don't provide screenshots of my desktop, but screenshots of Gnome2.2 are available here <http://vhost.dulug.duke.edu/%7Elouie/screenshots/2.2/> as linked from the Gnome 2.2 Start Page <http://www.gnome.org/start/2.2/>.

Err ... on second thoughts, here's a screenshot of one of my desktops which I put up as a joke between me and a friend: http://68.146.201.147/hidden-desire.png . The joke goes, I was afraid one day to have found out that my Linux box was having an identity crisis.

Enjoy, (whoever-it-was)!
