Honestly, I'd point to Andrew Tridgell as an excellent leader.  He's taken something he started himself, grown it, and backed off as others tok ahold and continued to build on it.  Through all of this, he's maintained the new developers trust, and expressed a clear vision, which has allowed the developers to create something that has benefitted probably several hundred thousand people.

There are a few others, but Tridge is the best known, and therefore the most likely to put you in a position where others actually want to read your paper after the teacher is done with it.

Subject: (clug-talk) Leadership Paper

Hi all,

I’m supposed to write a paper on a leader for one of my classes at SAIT.  Thought that some of you in CLUG might be considered good “leaders”.  :-)

If anyone would be willing to let me write a paper on them I would really appreciate it.  I need to have this thing written before Thursday the 12th of June.  Anyway, if you’re interested please send me an email with some information about you and your leadership skills, philosophy, and style.  Point form is fine.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Brian Horncastle
