That's what I was afraid of, that and the commercial accounting packages
vendors have some pretty expensive lawyers and accountants on their
payroll so that they don't make a mistake (the questions the software asks
you, rules, etc).  Not only would it be hard for an open source product,
it would also be extremely expensive unless they could find lawyers and
accountants willing to donate their time to the project.

Thanks :)  I'm compiling Gnucash as I type this and I will throw SQL
Ledger on my server here soon.  I'll download the trial version of
AppGen's MyBooks and see what I find out :)
