I've also seen problems with the Telus connection on a friend's computer.
He's running SuSE 8.1 with a firewall. The computer would intermittently
have DSL connection problems after about 2-3 weeks of use. I resolved the
problem somewhat by editting the file in SuSE (hopefully it's in the same
location in other distros):
/etc/sysconf/network/providers/provider0

I made sure that:
demand='YES'

and I increased the idle time to:
idletime='600'

My friend still reports having intermittent problems connecting with DSL
but not as often. Next time I visit, I will add the other DNS addresses
suggested to hopefully finally stabilize the connection.

Great tips!

Peter
