You'll have a MUCH easier time implimenting an AMD, because it'll run 32 ot
64 bit code equally well right out of the box.  Much like the 32 bit
systems, there won't be much difference other than that once you ignore the
marketing fluff.

I'd advise against RH.  If you need paid support, look at Suse.  If not,
Gentoo rules, and more and more people on this list are using it.

To me, the biggest driver for 64 bit processing is RAM.  You can address
TONS of ram with a 64 bit processor.  32 bit processors can't address enough
without ugly workarounds.  It'll be a while (18 months I'd guess) before
most software will see any real advantage of 64 Processing.  But if you can
load a terabyte database into RAM, processing times will be HUGELY improved
over continually hitting HDDs.

But then, if you're doing 3D CAD work, or similar, you'll likely see a
decient improvement.
