two options: you can run xmms through artdsp: "artsdsp xmms". this will fake 
out the app to think that arts is the dsp device. or you can install xmms' 
native arts output plugin. i'd recommend the latter.

fighting against the deps is usually a _very_ bad idea. dependencies are there 
for a reason.
