hi all...
doing my Saturday morning reading, i came across this article linked from
Linux Today:
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,4149,1274623,00.asp
i find it highly disconcerting because Sun is behind a few very important Free
Software projects right now, and yet it is vehemently against much of the
Free Software world. while this makes sense from the viewpoint of their
business model, i also think that it makes sense to think twice about
touching anything from Sun because of this.
Open Office (and perhaps Netbeans) is probably the only Free Software product
Sun sponsers that doesn't have a rational alternative at the moment. while i
continue to use it i can't help but encourage the development of independant
Free Software office suites so that this last tie to Sun can be severed as
well.
i consider Sun to be an enemy of Linux, thought a different sort of enemy than
any other out there right now. unlike those sueing everything Linux or PR'ing
against everything Linux, they are trying to charm their way into the pants
of a very Open Source friendly IT world by appearing to be Open Source
friendly while at the same time stabbing Free Software in the back with lies
and half truths and promoting non-Free solutions at every turn possible...
