Does the drive only contain NTFS/FAT/FAT32 partitions? If so, you can try "fdisk /mbr" from a command prompt. This rebuilds the master boot record.
CAUTION: If you are dual-booting with Linux, or have Linux partitions on the drive, do not run this or you'll have even more problems later.
Baloney all fdisk /mbr does is clear the mbr. It does not affect the partition table at all. If you have lilo or grub installed in the mbr then that will be erased but that is all that will happen.
