Have been there some months ago I understand where you are coming from. The market has gotten better over the last 2 years. Here is what I went through. I was looking for a job 2 years ago and submitting 200+ resumes to various companies with not so much as a response, it was a friend that helped me get my foot in the door with my last company. Then due to company issues I was let go and was once again looking for a job last year. 3+ months of searching and applying I was able to land 3-4 interviews. I was then told that the company I am working for now was looking.

First you might want to have your resume and cover letter critiqued, there are places that do this for you. I don't recall those places right now but the list are provided at the Canadian Human Resources Center.

My opinion is that 2 years ago *really sucked* the market was saturated and companies were slimming down the IT area. It has improved since then. If you are applying for an advertised position, you are competing with 500+ applications to the same posting within the week, (I asked,) Also most of the applicants are applying via Email, so filtering through 500+ Emails you might not stick out and make the cut, (1/500 chance since the Emails will look pretty much the same). Thus finding insider information on a posistion is critical in getting you at least an interview or at least submit a physical copy of your application since very few people will put in this effort. It's strictly a numbers game. You would have to increase your volume of applications, (continue to apply,) and / or better your odds (call around, find out if companies are considering hiring in the future.....)

Something will come up if you keep at it. Best of luck.

Hi guys,

May be this is off-topic but...

Is the situation with employment in IT area so bad as it is
seems to be?

I can't understand why during 3 month sending really good and personalized for each position resume and cover letter to more than 200 positions there was no answer at all! Why?

I immigrated from Russia 6 month ago and I have 12 years of programming experience in various areas, advanced knowledge of most useful hardware platforms and OS's ...

May be somebody knows this little secret that will allow me to find any kind of computer related job.
