This isn't bad. The one thing that this DOES allow is the ability for you to contrast it against closed source solutions.
Even if RH won't offer patches, or support, I'd bet my next paycheck that patches will be available online almost immediately, because people can patch the source themself. With an End Of Life closed source product, you're basically screwed. Further, migration from one distro to another will be fairly easy. Putting people in a position to try alternatives isn't a bad thing.
