sorry i didn't get in this thread sooner, bad couple of days for email and 
stuff... anyways... what you wanted to do when configuring the source package 
was: `./confiugre --prefix=/usr` plus whatever other flags you usually use =) 
same with any KDE software you compile from source on Red Hat or Mandrake; 
for SUSE it's --prefix=/opt/kde3
