I suppose we should back up a few paces and explain the purpose for www.clug.ca FYI, we will have calgary.linux.ca until we formally let CLUE know that we don't need the subdomain anymore. It will redirect to www.clug.ca for at least the next six months. We will do everything we can to update links out there. So to the reasons. Probably the most important reason is for simplicity, www.clug.ca is easier to spell, to say to relate to others than calgary.linux.ca that's numero uno. Another reason is that CLUG is very concerned with being the masters of our own destiny. A lot of government website are moving away from yadda.gov.ab.ca or what have you to a simpler format. We took this is an idea. Also, we felt that tying our Internet fate to www.linux.ca was something we wanted to get way from. We continue to associate with CLUE and try to support what they do. However, we felt it was time that we have our domain name completely separate and independent. This is something we feel is one of the main ways we communicate with you and the public so we wanted to make it better. Also, as a result of the survey we found that the website was a major sore point we we decided to do it from the ground up. We have moved to PHP Nuke as a content management system. This should make it easier for us to update and has some pretty funky stuff built in. We will be working towards getting all our content over (including the Nube site). The membership cards, brochures and such have been updated with the new logo (which has the new URL incorporated). We will be making the formal announcement at the next meeting. Hopefully I have covered everything.
