MCI still uses Telus if they are offering DSL. Unless they were willing
to start building their own local telephone network like Bell.

Shaw doesn't own a backplane any more but does have it's own
distribution network. It's owned and run by it's sister company Global
Telecom (Formally Shaw Fiber-link).

The local dsl services AT&T, Sprint (Maybe), MCI, Radiant, Interbaun,
Nucleus, Telus almost all use the telus phone network for access to the
clients. They don't all use Telus's backbone though. Bell, MCI, AT&T,
Sprint and Radiant all have their own backbones though they would be
hooked into Telus as well.

Bell is an interesting solution as they are setup their own COs and
pedestals for phone and dsl service but that limits where their service
is currently available.

You will note that the cheaper DSL players don't have their own back
bones. IE Nucleus, Interbaun. The more expensive ones do Radiant, AT&T,
MCI. This of course excludes Telus which offers both the cheaper and
more expensive DSL services.
