Thanks to all that posted.

I modified my exclude file to not use quotes, and specify the directories (i.e. 
Internet/* ).  Next I changed my tar command as has been indicated.  I'm still seeing 
the same behavior though.  The moment I use "--exclude-from FILE", the tar command 
just ends with no errors.

I tried the --exclude option, and this seems to work fine.  But I'd rather specify my 
excludes in a file - to be more manageable.

Any thoughts?

Sorry ... yes.  I didn't experiment too hard ... I must admit.  Note there is 
no slash on the end.  ;-)
