If the Sony software doesn't work in wine you're pretty much screwed unless 
someone figures out how to reverse engineer it (and survives the resulting 
lawyer hordes).  The Net MD devices aren't anything approaching a standard 
usb mass storage device.  In typical Sony fashion they don't use a vfat file 
system and they don't play MP3, only a proprietary Sony format called ATRAC 
(that is encrypted to boot!).
