Hey Gang,
We just received our first shipment of review books from Prentice Hall PTR. We will be publicizing this fact on the CLUG website (www.clug.ca) <grin> but will withold the list until a later date (over the next day or two). This is to be fair to all. Once the list is available, the review books will be handed out on a first come first served basis.
Our arrangement with Prentice Hall PTR works differently than with O'Reilly in that they send us review books of their choosing not ours. We also only get one copy of each book. We leave it up to the reviewer whether they want to keep the book or donate it back to CLUG for a giveaway.
We will post guidelines for reviews here on the mailing list and on the website (URL to follow) and will have them on-hand for the reviewers upon receipt of each book. They are not too strenuous so don't worry.
Book reviews are open to all Tier Two members in good standing (purely because we have your contact information and you are accountable). The reviewer will have one month (give or take a bit) to complete their review. If an inordinate amount of time is taken to complete the review or no review is submitted at all, the reviewer will be asked to surrender the book in their charge and they will not be eligible for future book reviews.
We don't mean to sound harsh but we don't want to spoil a good thing. This serves our sponsors in that they get our reviews and we end up with free books. It's a win-win situation.
