if you don't come up with something, i'm sure you're in some sort of 
Veterinary association or have links to the larger Vet community. i'd suggest 
using those connections to probe how many others need/want something similar 
and see if you can get them to commit to a certain base $ amount each to fund 
the development of a GPL'd software suite. that money could then be used to 
fund / bootstrap the project ... =)
