Hello,

I've been looking at the features of the upcoming Longhorn operating system
from Micro$oft and they will have something called WinFS. Basically it's a
filesystem based on a relational database adding some powerful capabilities
not available in regular file systems.

I'm interested in this because of the potential advantages for searching,
visualizing and managing large collections of files.

My question is whether there are any plans in the Linux comunity to follow
suit? If so what can I search for to learn more?
If there is no full fledged filesystem of the kind planned, is there at
least some extension of the regular file systems that allow more powerful
indexing?

Thanks,
Tomas
