Hello all,
This may be a late thank you Szemir, but better late than never. Blame my tardiness on spending my time taking your mini-presentaion advice and following your "common sense" tips. I spent today visiting four different computers belonging to friends and family that needed to be patched up. I have another two computers to go. I also increased the length of the passwords to ten digits and used caps, numbers, and the MD5 encryption method. I installed Snort to detect future intruders but still have to complete Snort configurations, (unbelievable, the day before Szemir's talk, an intruder entered my mom's laptop - fortunely there was no information on it yet since it was a three week old install.. and she's still talking to me ;)). I'm reading through the Snort man pages and google to get acquainted. So far, it looks like I have to run it through console and that it can run with the firewall. Thanks again Szemir for shedding light on something so important, for drawing my attention to it, and for preventing what I now know would have been a very big problem for me, my friends, and family. With respect, Peter Williams _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca
