AFAIK the current version of RH is based on RedHat 9.0 which you can download for free. Future versions will be based on Fedora Core which is also freely available. If you want to test it out, I would recommend installing Fedora, and then checking out the RedHat web site to see what additional features you get with the enterprise product.
