We tried a few different Audio CD apps.  They can read the tracks, and show 
that they are playing the tracks, but no sound.  I think the previous 
suggestion of the audio cable is the likely culprit here.  The only reason I 
didn't think of this myself is because of the fact that it worked under 
Windows, but I can see how this would work differently under Linux.  Anyway, 
thanks for the suggestion.

Are you having any other problems with the cd drive? Have you tried 
multiple cd
players? My first guess would be that the cd player is looking for a device
that does not exist. Check the settings, and make sure that if it is 
looking
for /dev/cdrom that the device exists and points to the proper drive.
