Hey Group, I think threads like this are interesting and healthy. There is also the possibility of it turning into a holy war. I pride myself on the fact that our mailing list is for the most flame-free, it is very constructive usually and people seem to be able to post without fear. It's a good thing. The other thing is that it appears to have promoted the impromptu presentation for May: KDE Kool Tips. I don't want to annoy or alienate the Gnome zealots out there so in all fairness we can do a shootout but it might be better if we saved Gnome for June or later.
I thought that I would take this opportunity to just say that I appreciate it when people participate but to please keep courteous and respectful. So far so good but there have been a few comments that have tread the line between sarcastic and spiteful. I use a window manager as I use Koffice apps frequently (among other things). At the same time I am almost always running a terminal to do some command line stuff. I sacrifice whatever performance hit to run X and KDE but I think the trade-off is that my productivity is pretty high. Also, my hardware is such that I don't notice any performance hit. This is purely from a desktop perspective, my server is not running X at all and I don't think it needs to.
