Dear Mr. Kimball,
Sorry to trouble you, since you don't know me. I have been told, you are the right person to send this note to, since you are trying to expedite the process.
My name is Niels Voll, and I am a long time customer of a store called Nexus Computer Books here in Calgary (with a population of close to 1 million, about the fifth largest city in Canada). Not only is Nexus (at least in my experience) the very best computer book store in Calgary, it has carved itself a special niche with Linux supporters here in our city, since it has been the only store where year over year the SuSE Linux distribution has been available. (Other stores have been pitifully inconsistent, and often only stocked Red Hat or no Linux at all.).
While Nexus may not be part of a large chain, its quality and selection of Linux related materials is by far the richest and best in our city. In that context Nexus has not only carried (and had copies in stock whenever I ave been to the store) of SuSE Linux, but also SuSE Linux add-ons and SuSE books. In a nutshell, without Nexus, there might not have been much knowledge, appreciation and use of SuSE Linux in Calgary.
From what I understand from the good folks at Nexus, is that theirtrusted distributor (Kudzu) has had a rough time getting SuSE 9.1, since SuSE is now in Novell hands, and there is a question about their SuSE distributorship being pulled, or it taking a long time for it to be re-activated.
Please accept my humble voice as encouragement for Novell not to kill off the long time loyal chain of SuSE supporters, from distributors to retail outlets to customers. Please let the chain stay alive and prosper. Even better, let them transfer their SuSE loyalties to Novell. Open source and Linux have always been about fairness and loyalty even to "the little guy". Allow me to implore you to not lose that spirit.
Finally, I personally wanted to get my hands on SuSE 9.1 very quickly, and therefore I sincerely hope, that the current channel can be re-established very quickly. I know, it would give you a very good image amongst SuSE supporters in our city (and probably beyond), rather than potentially damaging the "fan-base".
Kind regards,
...Niels Voll
