Mr. Lofthouse will describe the web, file-serving and Oracle database tests and pilot programs that showed Linux servers running on Intel hardware not only slashed the lifecycle cost of a server by more than half, but provided dramatic increases in performance compared to the existing proprietary Unix solutions. The lecture will be at the Central Calgary Public Library, meeting room #1 (basement) at 5:30 PM, Tuesday, March 25th. Please reserve a seat in advance by E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] -------------- Session is free for CUUG members & guest, $10 for others and includes pizza and pop. CUUG memberships are now $50. The city has been very positive about Linux recently: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040408.gttwticoll08/BNStory Also, as a preview for the June CUUG meeting, Microsoft is slated to talk about Windows UNIX services (now free). Should be interesting too.
