Hey Group, I just want to take this opportunity to say Thank-you so very much to the Convergence Booth staff:
Kari Major Szemir Khangyi Rod Ormon Jesse Kline Peter Van den Wildenbergh Aaron Seigo Your help was much appreciated and much needed. It made us look good. You all answered a plethora of questions that were fired your way. You were excellent ambassadors of CLUG, Linux and Open Source software in general and this is a good thing. Your aid in setting up and tearing down the booth was a great help. We managed to get home just as they finished the National Anthems for Game 5! I would also like to thank our Sponsors: Computer Surplus loaned us two gorgeous flat panel displays for our computers at the show, a set of speakers so we could sound good too, 100 blank CD's to burn Knoppix on (this was a very popular giveaway) and some mousepads. Computer Surplus has been a longtime supporter of CLUG and we get a 10% discount at their store. Thanks especially to Keith Robinson who is as friendly and helpful a guy as you could ask for. O'Reilly, another longtime sponsor, gave us 10 books to give away for the show; this is no insignificant thing as you know these books do not come cheap. They supplied us with catalogues as well. We'll be drawing for these books at the next meeting from the business cards and entry slips we received at the show. Marsee Henon a pleasure to work with and is always a huge help. SuSE/Novell have donated a bunch of stuff for giveaway at the show which we will also be drawing for next month. We have been in contact with them for over a year and they have recently committed to a very significant amount of stuff for our LUG. They have yet to firm up details but they have told us they will take care of us. I believe that. More details as it comes in. WiBand provided us with Internet connectivity for the show. Even though it was touch-and-go to get it set up and it came and went occasionally, we were happy to have it at all. It helped us download source code/binaries for getting the DVD software working. In between burning Knoppix CD's we had Revolution OS, Animatrix and Return of the King playing. VMware became a last minute add-on as a result of the presentation they did for us at our meeting but as they sent us so much stuff we were able to give some of it away at the show. There seemed to be significant interest in their product so that was good for them. We have one license for VMware Workstation to draw for from the Convergence entries and four more for door prizes for the July meeting. Stephanie Spanier was a pleasure to work with. Our booth materials were donated and this too added to our look of professionalism. Last but not least is the Convergence organizers themselves: The Web Market. Andy, Richard and the rest of the gang there made our Convergence experience a pleasant one. They donated the booth to us free of charge (except for power), this is something like our sixth Convergence show in a row and I believe it was a successful one. Thanks to everyone else that showed up and lent support and just hung around with us. This being my first trade show, I was a little overwhelmed but it was a rewarding experience. I was able to do what I do best and that is getting on my soapbox and preach about Linux and Open Source software. People seemed genuinely interested and very tired of their present circumstances with proprietary, closed-source software. Now we take a breather and eventually start planning for next year.
