Alt-F2 (brings up the run command window)
type 'kwin' (w/out the quotes, obviously =)
press the Run button (or do Alt-R)
sometimes this won't work due to X not being able to figure out that the run
command should get focus, so instead from a terminal do:
export DISPLAY=0:0
kwin&
if you want to do this ssh'd in from another machine (or as another user) and
you are getting errors about not being able to access the display, then as
the user running X do this from a terminal first:
xhost +localhost
