are some (or all) ports on your netgear router set to forward inbound
traffic to your samba machine?

some Netgear NAT routers have a problem with a widely known backdoor,
which allows administration of the box from the internet side by anyone
who knows about this backdoor. (i.e. you may not be in charge of your
router!)
