we discussed this not too long ago, basically it boils down to...

I have a Linksys WPC54G that works great with the ndiswrapper drivers, which 
basically makes the Windows drivers work in Linux. 

Prism chipsets are the most widely supported, but theres the Madwifi project 
which works on the DLink 802.11a/b/g cards.

If you can wait a little longer 802.11i is a new standard up and coming based 
on AES encryption instead of WEP which has known major weaknesses.
