File menu => Save As... => File type: drop-down => change to Text (.txt)

Smart move, sorry it didn't work out this time.  But, hey, that's why there's 
us, right?  :-)

Wow!  That would be high in geek factor which draws kudos from me.  I wouldn't 
even think of that.  I'm a slave to the GUI... ;-)

You could also use KEdit or GEdit some other "light" editor with spell-check 
features.  Hurray for options!
