Hey TroubleShooters :
Got a 2nd hand internal modem from one of our sponsers, according to the characters on the board it is a :
USR Sportster Model 0484 FCC Reg No CJEUSA-20778-MM-E chipset TI 415/514 56K Voice Internal, Model 0484
I run SuSE 9.0 on the box and after installing it (using the PnP jumper settings)
I see this in hardware detection (YAST)
ISA PnP
U.S. Robotics Unclassified device
Bus : ISA
Card type : PnP
Class (spec) : Unclassified device
Class : Unclassified device
Device identifier : 139376
Model : U.S. Robotics Unclassified device
Resources
io
0x3e8
active : Yes
length : 8
mode : rw
start : 1000 irq 5 count : 0
enabled : Yes
irq : 5 Unique key : QQNm.CyuoSwHHdHF
Vendor : U.S. Robotics, Inc. Vendor identifier : 153202
old_unique_key : 6LSg.CyuoSwHHdHF
Now the problem is that I can't get it working, I use minicom to test things.
(only on comm2 there is 'some' output the other ttySx give no output at all)
What I see after starting minicom :
the init string comes in parts (3) and very slowly on the screen
when it is complete (after 45 seconds) the cursor does not skip a line but goes back to the beginning of the AT cmd.
There is no 'OK' and I don't hear a thing from the modem...
So there is clearly no talking to the modem (AFAICT)
I googled a bit and found some various stories some got it working some not (usually on something old like Suse 6.x)
but no usefull how-to / driver / settings etc
The only hopefull thing was this
http://freewebhosting.hostdepartment.com/g/gromitkc/isa_list.html
(CJEUSA-20778-MM-E == ok)
I tried playing with the jumpers (comm / IRQ) but than the hardware detection in YAST does not pick up the card.
Anybody that can help? Shall I bring the PC to the installfest?
Thanks
Peter
