Hi Gang.

Jarrod and I recently got together to try and get qmail running on his server, with
some success. But in the process, we were talking about the number of qmail related
posts recently and the apparent interest in qmail. We thought that maybe CLUG should
do a qmail workshop. The workshop would be similar to an installfest, where the
participants bring their computers with them. But the computers would already have
their OS installed, and (should) be ready to begin a qmail installation. The thought
is that if a bunch of us are in one room, there should be a fair amount of knowledge
transfer, mentoring, and other help available to overcome any unforeseen issues.
Hopefully at the end of the day we would all walk out with a functional mail server
that meets our needs. Of course, part of the day would be a discussion on how to set
up your DNS MX records properly to begin receiving mail, as well as the other stuff
that needs to be in place to run an email server effectivly.

We have discussed what would be needed to host a workshop, and really it comes down to
how many people would be interested. If there are only a few, I can probably host the
workshop at my place. If there's a bunch, then my place is too small, but we have
other options. We were thinking of doing this sometime in September, probably towards
the latter half of the month.

So, what do you think of it? How many of you would be interested? How many of you
would show up with a box to install qmail on? Are there any particular topics that
you'd like to see included (keeping in mind it will only be a one day, or maybe a
multi night, workshop)?

Shawn
