Well, this will be my last post to the CLUG from Calgary. I am all packed and the movers will be hauling my stuff tomorow. Two years ago I made a radical career change to pursue, advocate and work with the growing open source paradigm shift in the technology industry. The first 2 years were spent here in Calgary. The Calgary Linux Users Group put me in touch with many fine people from the Linux and open source community and I am greatful for the opportunities, knowledge and brief friendships which started. My only regret is that I was not able to attend any of the CLUG meetings or to meet personally with more of you. I especially wish that I had found the time to attend some of the meetings if for no other reason than to share in some beers afterwards, and the passionate and informal discussions which followed.
I have various additional plans involving Linux and open source technolgies (in the Squamish/Whistler area) which I will be pursuing along with my government work and so I hope to offer many opportunies for other open source and Linux advocates. Even with my government job I know I will be doing a great deal of hiring and will always try to ensure my posts/requests for skilled open source and Linux developers is also sent to the CLUG list. Just in case any of you ever have the desire to move to Vancouver in pursuit of development and/or other technology opportunies with Linux and/or open source. And please dont ever hesitate to contact me if you are planning to move to Vancouver. If I have any opportunites which may suit your interests, and which meet my requirements, maybe something can be worked out. And if any CLUG member is driving through to Whistler or any where close to Squamish, drop me a line and I would love the chance to buy any CLUG member a beer (or 2 or 3 or ....). I will always have a couch to spare as well.
