I have an Nvidia G-Force MX4 card, with 64MB. I'm getting an average of 35
fps in full screen mode. This is fast enough that I'm not noticing any lag
at all.

While researching my troubles, I came across a few references to a TLS folder
that may cause some problems (found under /usr/lib/tls). In my case,
removing this folder (as recommended) caused more problems than it fixed -
some things just stopped working. Luckily, I just renamed the folder, so I
was able to replace it easily. But, I did see quite a few messages that
indicated a large improvement when this folder was removed. I think it
contains some DRI code that the nvidia drivers already provide, so it results
in less efficient processing. Perhaps this tip might be helpful to others?
